Calf Diarrhea Panel

Animals:

  • Recommended to sample feces from animals with diarrhea, as well as from animals without diarrhea that are the same age (i.e. one calf with diarrhea that is 7 days of age is matched with another calf without diarrhea that is 7±1 days).
  • Recommended a minimum of 12 sick and 12 healthy (ideal 20 of each).

Specimens:

  • Feces sampled from the rectum (or collected while animal is defecating).

 

Pathogens:

  • Clostridium perfringens
  • Salmonella Dublin
  • Escherichia coli F5
  • Bovine coronavirus
  • Bovine rotavirus
  • Cryptosporidium parvum
  • Eimeria (Coccidiosis)

Respiratory Disease Panel

Animals:

  • As with diarrhea, it is recommended to sample sick and healthy animals from the same age group. Also, recommended a minimum of 12 sick and 12 healthy (ideal 20 of each).
  • Recommended a minimum of 12 sick and 12 healthy (ideal 20 of each).

Specimens:

  • Deep nasopharyngeal swabs or tracheal lavage. From dead calves, sample tracheal fluid after necropsy.

  • Mannheimia haemolytica
  • Pasteurella multocida
  • Histophilus somni
  • Mycoplasma bovis
  • Bovine Respiratory Syncytial virus
  • Bovine Corona virus
  • PI 3 virus
  • IBR virus
  • BVD virus
